One exercise phenomenon that had its start lately is the fitness boot camp. Inspired by our soldiers prep before going off to fight, boot camp exercise programs for civilians are poping up all around the country. Some of these boot camps are militaristic, lead by drill sergeants in fatigues shouting orders, while other camps tend to be friendly and encouraging, lead by inspirational group exercise instructors.

Boot camp exercise classes vary in style, dependant upon the company and teacher. But typically a bootcamper is going to be given a physical test at the beginning of a camp, to assess fitness level. Then bootcampers will meet outside, typicallyheld in a park, beach, or river promenade, for an hour, usually 2-5 times weekly for 3-4 weeks. Fitness boot camps in reality encompass every one of the critical elements to truly encourage individuals. Typically there will always be different fitness levels in the class, so bootcampers dont feel alone nor left behind, yet feel inspired to improve by being amongst the bootcampers who are more in shape than themselves.

Throughout the boot camp, attendees can expect to undertake moving exercises for a stretch warm-up followed by interval training which switches back-and-forth between cardio and strength workouts. Aerobic workout are used to get the heart rate up and include movement training such as running, walking lunges, step-ups on benches, sit-ups, mountain climbers, etc. Strength training will include push-ups, triceps dips, holding core position, etc. At the end of the 3-4 weeks, the bootcamper is given another physical test to examine fitness advancement.

Boot camps are giving individuals with physical and mental challenge as well as camaraderie, which are all very engaging and cannot be found in the gym.
